Abstract/Summary:
Purpose: We conducted a meta-analysis to compare the surgical outcomes of limiting membrane flap technique(IFT)and internal limiting membrane peeling(ILM)for large macular holes. Methods: Pubmed,Cochrane library,EMbase,Wan Fang Database and CNKI were searched.Study selection, data exclusion, and quality assessment were performed by two independent observers. The main outcome measures were type 1 anatomical closure and visual acuity(VA).The pooled effect sizes were estimated using a random-effects model.Heterogeneity was evaluated using the Q and I tests.Sensitivity analysis and assessment of publication bias were performed. The difference was statistically defined as P<0.05.The quality of the evidence was rated using the Grading of Recommendations: Assessment,Development and Evaluation(GRADE)approach. Results: Nine studies, involving 775 eyes, were included.Compared with ILM,IFT had a high incidence of type 1 closure [OR=3.49,95%CI[2.15,5.68],P < 0.00001,Egger test,P=0.809],and it improved VA(BCVA)[SMD=-0.41,95%CI [-0.71,-0.11],P=0.007,Egger test,P= 0.158].No evidence of publication bias was observed, and sensitivity analyses indicated the robustness of results obtained. Conclusion: The IFT is more effective for Idiopathic large macular hole in hole closure and visual acuity.
