Acupuncture has been used in China for thousands of years. It is a therapeutic intervention method of Chinese medicine and plays an irreplaceable role in the field of traditional Chinese medicine.Acupuncture research is currently in stable development, because of its relatively few scientific explanations,it lags behind other areas. With the focus on chronic pain and neurological diseases, acupuncture research has ushered in a new round of development. In order to study the mechanism of acupuncture, the visualization process will be indispensable. In the research process of acupuncture,it mainly focuses on the influence of acupuncture on the central nervous system and local microcirculation. As an imaging mode that combines the advantages of optical imaging and ultrasound imaging, photoacoustic imaging can perform high-resolution imaging of cerebral cortical vasculature and peripheral blood vessels, and study neural activity and microcirculation processes from different spatiotemporal scales. This article focuses on the body's response to acupuncture and applies the photoacoustic imaging system to small animal brain imaging and human peripheral vascular imaging. The main contents of this article include:1.The current research status of photoacoustic imaging and acupuncture is briefly described, and the advantages of photoacoustic imaging in acupuncture research are described.2.Based on the basic principles of photoacoustic imaging, the absorption and propagation of light in biological tissues and the propagation of sound are introduced in detail. The specific functions and parameters of the existing rapid photoacoustic imaging system in the laboratory were elaborated, which provided a solid theoretical and hardware basis for subsequent research.3.Apply the photoacoustic imaging system to brain imaging research. To study the response of small animal cerebral cortex to acupuncture at different acupuncture points,by dividing the cerebral cortex into different brain regions,to observe the response of the brain region caused by acupuncture.Observe the hemodynamic changes of the vascular system of the cerebral cortex in small animals, and compare the effects of acupuncture at different points.4.In order to apply the photoacoustic imaging system to preclinical research,we have improved the coupling system. In order to improve the coupling method,we propose a dry coupling mode.Compared with the high-resolution images of traditional water coupling, the images obtained by dry coupling can be comparable to traditional water coupling, and even better in terms of system stability.5.Photoacoustic imaging was applied to peripheral blood imaging. The acupuncture points of the human body were stimulated by electricity to observe the hemodynamic changes in different positions. We investigated the effects of acupuncture on acupuncture points microcirculation. We stimulated hegu(LI-4)point of human body and observed the changes of blood flow in fingers, wrists and arms.It was found that the acupuncture points were bidirectional to the local microcirculation, and the starting time of blood flow changes in different positions was different. This paper shows the application of photoacoustic imaging in small animal brain imaging and human peripheral vascular imaging. It combines acupuncture points to study the response of acupuncture, extending from animal experiments to human experiments, and expanding the application of photoacoustic imaging in the field of acupuncture..
