Objective: Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to compare the metabolites ratios of the left and right prefrontal lobe in bipolar disorder patients with or without anxiety symptoms, and to explore the relationship between anxiety symptoms and metabolites of prefrontal lobe in bipolar disorder patients. Methods: A total of 39 untreated patients with bipolar disorder within one month were collected by case-control study, and were divided into anxiety symptoms group(20 cases)and non-anxiety symptoms group(19 cases)according to whether they had anxiety symptoms or not.The ratios of N-acetylasparte/ creatine(NAA/Cr),choline/creatine(Cho/Cr)and myo-inositol/creatine(m I/Cr)in the left and right prefrontal lobes of the two groups were measured by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and the statistical analysis was made. Results: 1.There were no statistically significant difference in gender, education level, occupation, economic status, family history, age, course of disease, age of onset between bipolar disorder patients with anxiety symptoms and those without anxiety symptoms(P>0.05).2.The ratios of m I/Cr in the right prefrontal lobe of patients with bipolar disorder with anxiety symptoms was higher than that of patients without anxiety symptoms, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).3.The NAA/Cr,Cho/Cr ratios in the right and left frontal lobes and m I/Cr ratios in left prefrontal lobe between patients with anxiety symptoms and those without anxiety symptoms showed no statistically significant differences(P>0.05).4.The change of Cho/Cr ratios in left prefrontal lobe of bipolar disorder patients with anxiety symptoms was negatively correlated with age and onset age(r=-0.632,P<0.05;r=-0.625,P<0.05).5.The NAA/Cr,m I/Cr in the right and left prefrontal lobes and Cho/Cr in the right prefrontal lobes of patients with bipolar disorder with anxiety symptoms were not significantly correlated with age and onset age(P>0.05),and the changes of NAA/Cr,Cho/Cr and m I/Cr in the left and right prefrontal lobes were not significantly related to the course of disease and the degree of anxiety symptoms(P>0.05).Conclusion: 1.There was an increase of myo-inositol metabolism in the right prefrontal lobe of bipolar disorder patients with anxiety symptoms.2.The level of membrane phospholipid catabolism in the left prefrontal lobe of bipolar disorder patients with anxiety symptoms may decrease with the increase of age and onset age.
