PurposeTo observe the clinical effect of acupuncture on the sphenopalatine ganglion in the treatment of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis and to explore a better treatment for the clinical treatment of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis.MethodThe patients were from the Department of Otolaryngology of Wuyi Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Jiangmen City.Sixty patients with chronic hypertrophic rhinitis were divided into a test group and a control group by random sampling, with 30 patients in each group. The test group was treated with acupuncture on both sides of the sphenopalatine ganglion combined with Shuangyingxiang,Shuanghegu, and Shuangkouheya. The control group was treated with conventional acupuncture treatment.Acupuncture was performed twice a week in both groups, with 2 weeks as a course of treatment and a total of 3 courses of treatment. The two groups were treated at 2,4,and 6 weeks of treatment(ie,the end of the first, second, and third courses of treatment).By comparing the patients with chronic hypertrophic rhinitis with the main symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, hyposmia, ear stuffiness and tinnitus, sleep status, and mood improvement and signs of turbinate hypertrophy was used to evaluate the treatment effect of the two groups.Result1.After the 2nd,4th,and 6th weeks of treatment(ie,the end of the 1st,2nd,and 3rd courses of treatment),the main symptoms such as nasal congestion, decreased olfactory sense, ear stuffiness and tinnitus, sleep status, and mood improvement in the test group and the total effective rate of treatment of turbinate hypertrophy were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).The total effective rates of the experimental group and the control group gradually increased with the extension of the course of treatment, and the experimental group increased significantly than the control group(P<0.05).The total effective rate of the symptom of runny nose gradually increased with the extension of treatment, but the test group was equivalent to the control group(P>0.05).2.After the end of the total course of treatment, the total effective rate of nasal congestion in the test group was 96.67% higher than that of the control group,63.33%(P<0.05),and the total effective rate of the symptoms of hyposmia was 90.00% higher than that of the control group,60.00%(P <0.05).The total effective rate of ear stuffiness and tinnitus was 83.33% higher than that in the control group,53.33%(P <0.05),the total effective rate of the sleep improvement in the test group was 83.33% higher than that in the control group,56.67%(P <0.05),and the total effective rate of adverse emotional symptoms was 90.00% higher than that in the control group,63.33%(P <0.05).The total effective rate of improvement of turbinate hypertrophy in the test group was 86.67%,which was higher than that in the control group,53.33%(P <0.05).However,the total effective rate of symptoms of runny nose was 76.7%,which was equivalent to 73.3% in the control group(P> 0.05).ConclusionThe results show that acupuncture of the sphenopalatine ganglia and conventional acupuncture treatments can improve the main symptoms of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis, such as nasal congestion, hyposmia, ear stuffiness and tinnitus, poor sleep, and unhealthy mood and turbinate hypertrophy. The improvement effect gradually increases with the extension of the course of treatment, and acupuncture of the sphenopalatine ganglia was more obvious.Acupuncture of the sphenopalatine ganglion and conventional acupuncture treatment can improve the symptoms of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis and runny nose, and the improvement effect gradually increases with the extension of the treatment course, but the improvement effect is equivalent.
