The ERP Study Of Inter-group Contact Influencing Face Recognition Of Han Faces And Uygur Ethnic Face

Inter-group contact refers to the activity of communication and exchange between two or more than two different social groups.The related researches of inter-group relationship confirmed inter-group contact promote the trust from each other,reduce the prejudice to the out-group member,and weaken the anxiety during the inter-group communication,so as to achieve the goal of improving the relationship.Recently,all walks of life became to focus on the social events caused from ethnic confusion.How to promote the integration between members of different groups actually need to be in consider of the social psychological researchers.Cognitive neuroscience held that basic perception processing would be influenced by higher cognitive or affective processes.This research use the method of neurophysiological study to investigate whether inter-group contact can influence the face recognition of Uygur college students,and exam how does the inter-group contact influenced the N170 race effect and implicit racial attitudes.Experiment 1 was to exam whether there is difference between the Uygur and Han racial face recognition and how this racial effect expressed on the N170 component.This study uses the ERP technology for data acquisition,selecting sequence prime paradigm as the experiment task.The result finds that own-race preference affects the N170 race effect.There is no difference between the amplitude of N170 caused by the whole Uygur and Han faces.However,the in-group preference can predict N170 amplitude race effect.The higher the Uygur get the in-group preference score,the more degree N170 amplitude race effect.Experiment 2 was to investigate how inter-group contacts influence the race face recognition process.The same task was used as Experiment 1.Through a questionnaire survey and sampling,the subjects were divided into two groups,high contact group and low contact group.The result showed that N170 amplitude caused by race face images in high contact group was smaller than the N170 amplitude in low contact group.It means that longer other race face perception experience can help reduce the individual attention resources involved in the face recognition process.The conclusions of these both study could be sum up as following: 1.There is no difference between the amplitude of N170 caused by the whole Uygur and1.There is no difference between the amplitude of N170 caused by the whole Uygur and Han faces.2.Own-race preference affects the N170 race effect.The in-group preference can predict N170 amplitude race effect.The higher the Uygur get the in-group preference score,the more degree N170 amplitude race effect.3.N170 amplitude caused by race face images in high contact group was smaller than the N170 amplitude in low contact group.
