With the development of globalization,English reading has become an effective way to obtain information.However,most English teachers has been plagued by English reading teaching,especially those who teach in rural.The traditional English reading teaching which adopts explaination and memorization is still used,thus many students is not interested in English reading,thus affecting the entire English learning.In order to solve the problems existing in the traditional teaching method,more and more schools try to study the more challenging cooperative learning teaching mode.When teaching,the teacher is the guider,the task allocator and the evaluator,and the students themselves complete reading through the group cooperation.However,limited by hardware and software conditions,there are some difficulties when cooperative learning model is used in the poor rural middle school.Author explores how the cooperative learning is carried out effectively under the existing conditions of the rural middle school.In this research,we mainly explore three questions incluiung whether it can improve students' reading score,whether it can promote students'reading interest and whether it can culture students' learning ability if cooperative learning is used in rural middle school.The research objects of the study are the students of two classes in the eighth grade in Liuliping town middle school in Danjiangkou city,in Hubei province.One class is experimental class,the other is control class.In the experimental class,cooperative learning method is used,whereas the traditional teaching mode is still used in control class.Based on exposition of the theory of cooperative learning and English reading,we point out the problems existing when cooperative learning is used in English reading teaching.And,we discuss some attentions and teaching process under the current conditions if cooperative learning is used in rural middle school.In the experiment,the method of interview,questionnaire survey and test method were used to collect data.With the help of SPSS 19.0,the pre-test and post-test scores of two classes is analyzed.Finally,through experiment the author confirmed that cooperative learning can improve students' reading acheivements and promote students'reading interest and culture students' learning ability.There are some problems need to be solved when cooperative learning is used in rural middle school,for example,optimizing group strategy,the class control and evaluation mechanism etc.
