This paper takes the relation between heaven and man as a breakthrough point to recognize Ye Shi's thought. The paper is divided into four parts. The first part is an introduction on the new problem in the thought history that Ye Shi face. With the transformation of society between Tang and Song, some new prolems have raised up.Neo-Confucian meet the challenge from Buddhism and Taoism. They have to state the advantage that Confucian over Buddhism and Taoism.Neo-Confucian solve the problem by rebuilding the ultimate root of Confucian value, that is to say,a new relation between heaven and man has been established. Thus, the origin of Confucian value has changed from"antiquity" and "heaven" to "principle(li)" and "mind(xin)”.However,Ye Shi insists the traditional idea and still takes heaven as the ultimate origin. He refuses to transform heaven into principle and is opposed to the theory that heaven and man in one.Accordingly, his unique idea has come into being. The second part states theory framework of the relation between heaven and man.In Ye Shi's text, heaven can be concluded as four categories which are material heaven, dominated heaven, ordering heaven and vigour heaven.Ye Shi takes the material heaven as the origin and discusses the development of heaven's meaning, which changed into religious and humanistic heaven. All the things in nature include men, animals and plants are in a same command from heaven. But man can accept "creativity" from dominated heaven.Relying on the "creativity",man can learn how to become a sage and reach the Tao.Man has an inner responsible with heaven and the relation is established on the duty. The third part states the logic framework of the relation between heaven and man.The duty of man to heaven is presented with the empirical world.Man observe the principle of heaven and make rule to maintain an ordering life.Chung Yung is the highest ruler in our world and the root of other rulers or values.Man build the supreme ultimate to ensure the pluralism of Confucianism value and sage formalize the theory of learning to teach people how to realize the duty on themselves.Only man realizes his responsibility can he understands the relation between heaven and man. However, only Confucian can realize the duty by themselves. Therefore, they take the responsibility on themselves and make attempt to construct a harmonious society. The Tao of Confucian is the display of the relation of heaven and man.Confucian not only pays close attention to the empirical world, but also follows with interest on abstruse world. The fourth part concludes the original of Ye Shi's idea of relation between heaven and man.Ye Shi refutes to transform heaven into an idea and still uses the traditional conception which comes from Antiquity and Sages to elaborate the relation between heaven and man, which states he is conservative in culture. With the influence of conservatism on Ye Shi's idea of relation between heaven and man,Ye Shi keeps regarding heaven as the ultimate root of Confucian value and takes a cautious and empirical way to cultivate moral considering the man is limited. The resources that constitute the idea are not only from the traditional culture but also from the political culture.Ye Shi finds that the emperor who can represent the order of heaven and the intellectuals which can represent the mind of man are not easily to encounter with each other. So he is cautious on the proposition that everyone can integrate with heaven. Moreover,Ye Shi's idea also has a fresh meaning that can transcendent the finite political culture and be more universal and sustained on ethical life which present the man's inner responsibility to the heaven. And with the conception of responsibility,Ye Shi's idea of relation between heaven and man has a more rationalistic and humanistic spiritual.
