This dissertation is aiming at analyzing and sorting out the period activities of the Dutch East India Company during the first half century of 17 century.The porcelain trade in the European market can be divided into four periods:the initial,the developing,the climax and the decline.In the initial period,the Dutch obtained a number of porcelain in Patani and Bantam The number of porcelain is quite small,so is the number of ships transporting porcelain to the Holland.In the developing period,the Dutch conquered Taiwan as its base for porcelain trade,where the Dutch increased their purchase.In the climax period,huge quantities of porcelain are transported to Holland,with Jingdezhen fine porcelain.Meanwhile the Dutch made demands and requirements on porcelain.In the forth decade of the 17th century,due to war,the porcelain trade stopped.Asian porcelain trade can be divided into three periods with almost the same features in the European porcelain trade.But porcelain in this region are corse wares.And the Dutch is not dominating the vast Asian market.These two features are the most distinct features that are different from those in the European porcelain trade.In the European porcelain trade,porcelain vary,such as while porcelain,enamel porcelain and blue and white porcelain.In the developing period,the variety of porcelain increased.In the climax period the Dutch ordered porcelain with European styles,and new shapes were emerging as well.In the Asian market,porcelain are mainly corse ones,and cups and dishes are the most popular forms.Military force,vast network,marketing location,and other factors make the Dutch East India colmpany the leading porcelain trader in the 17th century.As for influences,this is mutual.For Europe,porcelain changed their living styles,promoted porcelain industry in Europe,and contained European styles.For China,it formed a climax in the porcelain manufacturing in history,and thus Jingdezhen becomes the world porcelain-making center.
