The British East India Company had a profound influence on the trade of modern India.Bengal is the first area occupied by the British East India Company in India,On the one hand,it became the cornerstone of the company's trade in India,On the other hand,it also reflects the development of the company's trade in India.Through the changes of the company's trade development in Bengal,we can see the rise and fall of British East India Company's trade in India.First of all, this paper takes the regional development as the context to sort out the origin and development stage of Bengal trade; From the perspective of world change, the paper also analyzes the historical reasons for the British East India Company to enter Bengal.Secondly, this paper mainly expounds the British East India Company's trade in Bengal from 1793 to 1833.The first stage was the period of trade development after allowing British private businessmen to get involved, and the import and export of bulk commodities were significantly increased; In the second stage, due to the restrictions of the act of 1813,the East India Company only retained trade with the east and parts of the country outside India, and the trade volume was greatly reduced; In the third stage, under the provisions of the charter act of 1833,the British East India Company completely lost the Bengal trade except for some special commodities such as Bengali salt.During these four decades, the British east India company was stripped of its business functions, which brought Bengal trade into a new stage of development.Thirdly, this paper analyzes the characteristics of British East India Company's trade in Bengal.First, trade development turned from rising to falling;Second, the main trade goods in Bengal is raw materials;Third, trade is obviously colonial and predatory. Finally, the British East India Company established its dominant position in India through its rule in Bengal and trade export, and transferred its business functions to British businessmen. In this process,Bengal completed the transformation from tradition to modern times, and the national bourgeoisie developed rapidly; At the same time,Bengal became the economic vassal of the British East India Company. This negative effect continues to affect today's Bengali society.
