Listening comprehension has been a focus in the field of foreign language teaching for many years.It wasn't until 1960 s that the listening strategy training aroused wide public concern.The empirical studies made by the famous linguists such as O'Malley,Chamot and Anderson have confirmed that strategy training could help students to utilize the language input they received and improve their performance on listening tasks.With the development of modern cognitive psychology,it is wildly acknowledged that listening is an active mental process,in which a listener tries to understand the listening materials with the help of listening strategies and kinds of knowledge.At present,with the coming of the information age,how to conduct effective strategy training by using the internet is becoming a trend.The thesis mainly focuses on using different listening strategy instructions to compare their effects on students' listening comprehension.In this experimental study,a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design was used.The two classes received different listening strategy instruction models.The experiment instruments include a questionnaire on listening comprehension strategies and tests of listening comprehension proficiency.Firstly,the two classes took the pretests and did the pre-training questionnaires.The results showed there was no significant difference between the two groups in the employment of listening strategies and in the listening proficiency.Then,the two groups got the different listening strategy instruction based on different listening instruction models.One class received the CALLA model and the other class received the CAI model with the use of an on-line learning system.The strategy-based instruction lasted ten weeks.After that,the two groups took the post-training tests and did the questionnaires again.The results showed that there existed significant difference in each class in their pre and post tests,as well as in their listening strategy use;the frequency of the listening strategy and the listening comprehension performance in two classes are also different.The listening performance in class received CALLA listening strategy instruction is comparatively higher than that of the class received CAI model.The present study suggests that listening strategy training can enhance the students' strategy awareness,increase the frequency of listening strategy use and improve students' listening comprehension proficiency.Teachers play an important role both in training students to use strategies and in integrating networking with classroom teaching.To produce more authentic interaction and obtain more resources,network-based language learning is suggested as a supplement to the conventional EFL learning.
