“Connais-tu le pays” is a classical aria cantabile of French opera “Mignon”,and expressed the attractive toward of hometown.This aria is euphemistic,reserved,elegant,and exquisite,with the beauty of serenity and delicacy,and fluency in emotional expression.First,this paper reviewed the social and historical background of birth and evolution of French opera,personality traits and artistic characteristics.Then,the composing background and storyline is sketched.Thirdly,this paper discussed in detail the melody features,musical form structure,melody features,dramatis personae Mignon' s emotional expression of “Connais-tu le pays”.Last,comparative analysis of singing style among Teresa Berganza,Yang Guang and Renata Tebaldi is presented.Thus,aria cantabile is gradually discussed which is in order to enhancing its comprehension and singing effect.
