Jia Zhangke,representative of the six generation movement of Chinese films,has been the focus both at home and abroad since the release of The pickpocket.In his works he expresses his views of points on social transformation using his unique style of film narration,starting from the rational,use Lens to record change of Chinese society,to faithfully present of social reality,to each ordinary individual expresses his highest respect.He brought a ray of youthful vigor for the lethargic Chinese film,breaking the conventional of Chinese cinema and forming a new paradigm.Based on the film narratology related,the thesis intends to analyze Jia's way of film narration by choosing his films as subjects.The thesis consists of six parts.The first part is the introduction,which cover the motivations and significance of this subject,the brief literature review of Jia's film study domestically and abroad,and also clear definitions of concepts and items invoved.In the second part,the thesis analyzes the creating background of Jia's films from four different perspectives: the social modernization in China,the reform of Chinese film mechanism,the influence of film culture at home and abroad,and his personal experience.First,the bottom people are increasingly highlighted with the modernization of community;second,there was only one way Jia could choose under the pressure of film mechanism reform;third,the large influx of domestic and foreign films provide him great help to his creation;forth,he owns a deep understanding on this group thanks to his living experience in small villages.In the third part,the thesis analyzes four different kinds of bottom people appearing in Jia's films: the migrant workers,the laid-off workers,the weak females under the repression of males,and the unemployed.The forth part of the thesis analyzes the audiovisual language of Jia's films,which are the pictures and the sound.First,the objective shots and life-like scenes of the film ensure the accurate reflection of social reality;second,the plain accents and realistic background music in the film naturally express the voices of the bottom.In the fifth part,the thesis studies the narration of his films mainly from following five aspects: the participation of non-professional actors,the anti-traditional narrative structure,open ending of the story,life-like space and time in films,and poetic details.The participation of non-professional actors gives the film a sense of authenticity;anti-traditional narrative structure and open ending make the film more realistic and close to real life;the life-like space and time ensure the environment in which the story happened;and the poetic details help to deepen the theme of films and make up for the lack of narration.The significance and deficiency of Jia's film narration are analyzed from the perspective of society and artistic in the last part.By studying the narrative of Jia's film,he tries to sum up his narrative characteristics and provide some reference for the new generation of directors,so as to play a certain role in promoting the diversification of Chinese film,and make the audience more understand and watch his film.
