This thesis is a translation report which represents the method adopted, difficulties and solution in the process of translating Ya Nu of San Mao.Ya Nu is a documentary prose telling the story of San Mao and Jose in their contact with a deaf and mute black slave in Sahara desert.Characterized with concise and natural language, the prose contains a lot of colloquial expressions and straightaway idioms;and brief and incomplete sentences where the conjunctions are rarely used.It requires the translator to adopt some translation methods to make the translation meet with the requirement of the target language. The translator is required to firstly selectively adapt to the translational eco-environment,and then fully apply the translator's subjective initiative to the performance of translating respectively from the dimension of language, culture and communication.Through the selection and conversion of words and sentences,a translation in the best balance between adaption and selection should be obtained. This thesis comprises six chapters. The first chapter gives a brief account of the translation project including the background and the language style. The second chapter mainly represents the process of the translation project. The third chapter is the literature review of the research and translation on works of San Mao.The fourth chapter briefly introduces the main concepts of the Eco-translatology.The fifth chapter is the most important chapter which analyzes the translation practice of Ya Nu respectively from three perspective of “translational eco-environment”,“translator's subjective initiative” and “translating from three dimensions”.And the sixth chapter is the conclusion.
