The paper is a report on the translation of the first part of the Rates of Exchange written by British academic writer Malcolm Bradbury. The main content of the novel is a series of events that the protagonist,Petworth, experienced in Slaka. The first part of the novel mainly describes what the protagonist Petworth saw at Heathrow Airport,on plane, and at Airport of Slaka before he arrived at his destination. The language used in Rates of Exchange is humorous and ironic in the description of some scenes and characters. There are a large number of long and difficult sentences and word-spelling mistakes in the novel. This is a difficult point in my translation practice. In this regard,I translated the attributive clauses, predicative clauses, and passive voice by using the method of pre-translation,post-translation,adverbs being translated into separate sentences, and turning active voice into passive voice.Through this practice in translation,I recognized the difficulties in translating literary works and accumulated some literary translation experiences.I hope that in the future,I can learn more cultural knowledge, improve literary attainments, apply translation theories to translation practice, and improve my translation skills in translation practice.
