Vocabulary is the foundation of a language.Without vocabulary,no language is meaningful.Therefore,vocabulary teaching becomes an important part of English teaching theories under research and discussion.How to improve students to study vocabulary highly-efficiently has been paid a growing attention.In the senior high school period,the traditional way of teaching cannot stimulate students' interests.Memorizing vocabulary for students primarily means cramming.Traditional teaching method separates the vocabulary with the context.In fact,the context restricts our understanding of the meaning of words,while the meaning of words depends on the context which is the key to the teaching of vocabulary.The paper,based on the survey on the teaching of vocabulary on account of the context,studies the current teaching methods used by teacher in senior high school English vocabulary through the survey,the current situation of context-based English vocabulary and the attitude of teachers and students toward senior high school English vocabulary teaching.Thus,the development of senior high school teaching of English vocabulary is improved for the students.The paper,first of all,analyzes the background of English vocabulary teaching and context-based vocabulary teaching and the significance of the studies,and stresses the necessity and importance of context-based English vocabulary teaching in the teaching of English vocabulary.Secondly,the essay also illustrates foreign and at home studies on the context,the teaching of vocabulary and related studies on the teaching of context-based vocabulary teaching.Then,the writer applies a studying method of the questionnaire and interview,and investigates 250 Grade two students and 20 teachers from the senior high school in M City.The writer also implements reliability and validity tests and data analysis on the questionnaires through SPSS17.0.According to the result,currently,the teaching methods of English vocabulary contain context-based vocabulary method.Most of the teachers usually use the context-based vocabulary teaching for their vocabulary teaching.Students and teachers are positive with the context.However,some teachers lack the knowledge of the context and the way of describing the context is too monotonous.At the same time,students shall also develop their own consciousness of context and strategy for the context.All in all,thewriter has proposed related suggestions to improve the teaching quality of teachers and stimulate students to learn better with the aid of the context.
