Based on the theory of "Language Transfer",this thesis studies negative transfer in the Chinese-English(C-E)simultaneous interpretation(SI)of native Chinese students,categorizes the outcomes of negative transfer and identifies the causes.The theory of language transfer holds that similarities between the target language and the mother tongue will make it easier for learners to grasp the target language and differences between the two languages will cause difficulties for acquiring the target language.The C-E SI experiment includes two groups:Group C consists of students whose mother tongue is Chinese and Group E consists of English-speaking students.This thesis aims to analyze negative transfer in Group C's interpretation from message completeness,grammatical morpheme,lexicon and syntax.Meanwhile,this thesis compares the interpretation of Group E with that of Group C to show the negative transfer of Chinese.Besides,this thesis grades the two groups' interpretation and conducts a horizontal comparison to review Group C's negative transfer.This thesis finds that different types of negative transfer in grammatical morpheme,lexicon and syntax do exist in the interpretation of Group C,the performance of whom is inferior to that of Group E.It implies that to avoid negative transfer and improve the quality of interpretation,interpreters should get a deeper understanding of the differences between English and Chinese and learn to interpret in English thinking mode rather than Chinese thinking mode.Meanwhile,this thesis also keeps an eye on the problems in Group E's interpretation and draws the conclusion that Chinese negative transfer is not the only cause for all the problems in Group C's interpretation.Since the publications of domestic scholars on language transfer in English study focus on the writting and translation of college students,the author therefore tries to use the theory of language transfer to analyze the negative transfer in native Chinesestudents' C-E SI.
