Reading is an essential agent for learning,a convenient way of language input,a vital means to acquire knowledge and a significant vehicle for promoting the intellectual growth.Those with a good command of English have read widely.In Junior High School English teaching,the teaching of reading is an important part.To a certain extent,it determines the quality of English teaching and the level of students' English learning.In terms of the Entrance Examination to Senior High School in Quanzhou City,the questions in the English examination paper,(such as reading comprehension questions and cloze test questions)directly related with reading take up 55 points out of the 150 points(the exam total score).Therefore,the cultivation of reading ability occupies a very important position in Junior High School English teaching and it is of practical significance to study the effectiveness of the teaching of reading in Junior High School.This paper is to study the validity and feasibility of the teaching of reading in Junior High School guided by constructivism through the elaboration of the basic theory.The research methods include pre-test,post-test,questionnaire,student interviews,and classroom teaching experiments.The use of the questionnaire and student interview is to help teachers teach students in accordance with their aptitude so that students can break the bottleneck in both analyzing and figuring out the reading questions in the English exams and have their English reading ability promoted to a new level.Based on the analysis of students' pre-test and post-test on the reading comprehension questions,a conclusion is made that constructivism can improve the efficiency of the teaching of reading in Junior High School,stimulate students' reading motivation,create a learning environment for interactive reading and help to create the background relative to the reading materials.Two classes in Grade 3 in Huian Keshan Junior High School are selected as test subjects to carry out classroom teaching experiment.In the experimental class,the teaching of reading in Junior High School under the guidance of constructivism is adopted,while the traditional teaching of reading is adopted in the control class.In the process of the research implementation,the experimental class studies the strategy of teaching experiment from the following four aspects:1.Students' reading quality is trained so as to cultivate their interest in reading,promote the development of their self reflection ability and improve their quality and efficiency in reading.2.Students' own factors are correctly assessed so that the proper selection of reading strategy and skills can form the technical basis for efficient reading.3.Practice is the key factor in transforming the reading ability from the possibility into reality.4.The reading result offers feedback to the self-motivation training.The digital EXCELL and WORD tables are used to analyze the experimental results.The experimental results show that the teaching of English reading in Junior High School under the guidance of constructivism can improve students'reading ability and comprehensive language ability,and cultivate students' interest in the English reading.Besides,it confirms the previous research conclusions,which provides a theoretical reference for the teaching of English reading in Junior High School in the future.
