English reading ability plays an important role in students' English learning.With the deepening of curriculum reform,some English teachers realize that they should apply task-based teaching method to English teaching to cultivate students' English reading ability.However,in the current English reading class in junior and senior high school,many teachers still adopt traditional reading teaching methods,such as grammar translation method.It obviously has the following shortcomings.Firstly,the teaching concept of traditional teaching method is relatively old.The new curriculum standard puts forward clear requirements for junior high school students' reading ability,while the traditional teaching method cannot fully achieve these goals.Secondly,the class that teacher uses traditional teaching method is rather boring for students,in which students do not really participate in classroom activities.In view of the above,some English teachers begin to explore other reading teaching methods in order to help students improve their English reading ability.In recent years,many scholars have begun to explore the application and effect of task-based teaching method in English reading teaching.Based on their research,the author intends to answer the following questions through this teaching experiment.1.What are the advantages of task-based teaching method compared with traditional reading teaching method?2.What changes does task-based teaching method make to students' English reading so as to improve their English reading ability?In order to find out the answers to these two questions,the author conducts a four-month experiment.In this study,there are two classes,the control class and the experimental class,which are from two classes of grade eight in Lanyuan Junior High School of Lankao County.There are 50 students in each class.In the experimental class,the author adopts the task-based teaching method,while in the control class,the author continues to apply the traditional reading teaching method.In the process of the experiment,the research methods mainly include questionnaire,test and interview.Finally,the author uses SPSS software to analyze the data in order to acquire correct and reliable results.According to the results of data analysis,the author draws the following conclusions.First of all,compared with the traditional reading teaching method,task-based teaching method can create a more active classroom atmosphere for students,stimulate their learning interest and increase their participation in English reading class,and improve their classroom performance.Secondly,task-based teaching method can change students' attitude towards English reading,making them develop good reading habits and master some useful reading skills.Therefore,by changing students' reading habits and making them master some reading methods,task-based teaching method helps students improve their reading ability.
