As a representative writer of the theatre of absurd in the 20th century,Samuel Beckett paid more attention to the formal experiment of novels and the development trend of novel art in his works. His trilogy completely abandons the time, place, characters, plot and other characteristics which usually appear in the traditional novel in order to subvert and deconstruct the form of novel. It represents the peak of Beckett's novel experiment since its narration is chaotic with contradictions and fracture, everything in his trilogy is not fixed, but fuzzy, specious and difficult to grasp.Combined with unnatural narratology theorized by Brian Richardson, this thesis analyzes Samuel Beckett's trilogy Molloy,Malone Dies and The Unnamable.Through the interpretation of multiperson narration, interlocutor, denarration and the permeable narrator in the trilogy, this study draws the following conclusions:Beckett artfully uses extreme narration in his trilogy, revealing the development trend and aesthetic characteristics of postmodernism novels, and providing a new theoretical angle for further study of absurd literature. This thesis comprises five chapters in total. The first part of introduction introduces Samuel Beckett's life, the main content and:important position of the trilogy, the purpose and significance of this paper is also mentioned in this chapter. The literature review part systematically reviews the current research of Beckett's trilogy Molloy,Malone Dies and The Unnamable at home and abroad, and then puts forward the innovation point of this thesis. The third part of the thesis firstly introduces the theoretical research background of unnatural narratology, and then focuses on the different types of extreme narration proposed by Brian Richardson.Chapter four respectively studies Beckett's trilogy, analyzing the extreme narration in the trilogy and their artistic effects in detail, including multiperson narration, interlocutor, denarration and permeable narrator. The conclusive section tends to summarize the theoretical and practical application value of this thesis:By analyzing the novel trilogy with Brian Richardson's extreme narration,Beckett's novel experiment can be better understood, which also provides a theoretical basis for further understanding of absurd novels.
