The Study On Chen Hongbi's Novel Translation

Chen Hongbi is a successful and famous female translator in modern society.The language,narrative pattern and consciousness in her translation works are distinctive,and the research of her translation characteristics is of great significance to the study of Chinese modern novels' development and reform.However,studies of Chen Hongbi's translation is very insufficient,most researchers ignore the original text and are confined to exploring the characteristic of Chen Hongbi's translation,while the studies of Chen Hongbi's translation characteristics which are based on the comparison of original texts and translations are quite few.This paper takes File No.113(Le Dossier N0.113)as the research object to discuss Chen Hongbi's translation features by comparing the original text and the translation,comparing her translation behavior and others' at that time and also binding Xu Nianci's evaluation.This paper includes three parts:Introduction,Content and Conclusion.The Introduction sorts out those studies of Chen Hongbi's life,translation works and translation features,and points out those incorrect information.The Content is divided into four chapters.The first chapter analyses Chen Hongbi's translation preparation:her study experience in mission schools,her novel translation experience before,her choice of detective novels and File No.113.The second chapter analyses her language features:the first one is that the language shows both new and traditional through her translation of names,places,western things and punctuation;the second one is that she attached great importance to the original emotions through her translation of those emotional words,exclamations and exclamatory marks;the third one is that she paid attention to the logic of this novel.The third chapter analyses the narrative pattern of the translation:her deletion of first chapter shows that she might try to abandon traditional narrative pattern or she might keep a conservative attitude towards flashbacks;her preservation of psychological description shows her appreciations of psychological description.The fourth chapter analyses the consciousness features,it contains the legal consciousness,the feminine consciousness and the moral consciousness.The Conclusion concludes Chen Hongbi's translation features.Chen Hongbi's translation is both traditional and modern.During her translation,she not only complied with the translation characteristics in that time,such as her use of classical Chinese,her maintenance of social morality and so on,but also introduced her own translation characteristics,such as her preservation of English dash and psychological description which are overlooked at that time.And it is these characteristics that promote the development and the reform of Chinese novel and modern society,which is also the main reason for the popularity of her translation.
