With the development of globalization,English plays a great part in international communication.Listening,speaking,reading and writing are four skills of mastering a language,among which,besides speaking,writing is another means of transmitting people's ideas.However,in senior high school,writing teaching is faced with a severe situation.Students find it difficult to express themselves fluently and clearly.They lack proper expressions,broad horizon to analyze problems and lack enough language and writing skills to complete a composition.Thus,they lose interest and their confidence is foiled.Researchers have made many efforts to solve such a dilemma,among which is reading-to-write approach.It shows that reading and writing have close relationship between each other and they contribute great to each other.Theories like language input and output provides powerful support for this approach.Reading gives much information,from which the broaden their horizon,expand their thinking pattern.Besides,intensive reading can make students be aware of the proper use of a certain word,how the writer express his ideas effectively and so on.Enough input contributes to fluent output.By comprehensively using what they ave taken in in reading,students learn to produce similar language output.Through practicing and repeating,they gradually become skillful in wiring.Another is schema theory,which helps students construct and store content,vocabulary and structure schema in their mind through accumulating.Rich language about a certain topic will emerge in brain,not to worry about having no words to say.Facing such problems and with the support of these theories,the author write this essay,trying to find out a proper way to solve present problems.The questions discussed are as follows.(1)What influences can applying reading-to-write approach brings to students' writing competence?(2)What influences can applying reading-to-write approach brings to students' attitude to writing?Based on some previous studies,the author conducts an experiment by combing reading and writing in practical teaching for about two terms.The subjects are 58 students in senior one class 7 in Guanqiao middle school in Santai County in Mianyang.The author use pre-test and post-test to testify what changes do students have in their performance in writing.Besides,use the same questionnaire to see what do students thoughts about writing have changed.By analyzing the data collected,the author finds this approach help students improve their writing competence in contents,language,grammar and organization.Besides,students gain their confidence and interest in writing and become active in writing.Through experiment,they know exactly about the relationship between reading and writing,by using which,they form good habit of reading and accumulate classified expressions to get themselves well prepared for writing.There are too many factors which can influence the experiment.The author can't take everything into consideration.This is what the limitation is.However,suggestions are given to reference for further researches.Hope more effective ways can be found to improve students writing competence.
