| Among the key abilities of English learning, writing has always been regarded as an important component.Writing ability is also vital in a person’s overall development. Therefore, plenty of teaching approaches have been used in writing classrooms.Reading-to-write is one of them. But most of studies at home and abroad are about writing performance of native language or second language learners, and participants are usually high level students.Empirical researches into Chinese high school English learners are relatively rare.Based on Krashen’s Comprehensible Input Hypothesis,Swain’s Comprehensible Output Hypothesis as well as the cognitive process writing theory, this study tries to explore the effects of reading-to-write approach on senior high school English writing. To be more specific, two research questions of this study are:(1)What are students’ attitudes to reading-to-write approach?(2)What are the effects of reading-to-write approach on students’writing proficiency?Subjects of this study were 84 grade two students from one high school in Changsha.During the three-month experiment,reading-to-write approach was employed in experimental group(EG),while control group(CG)adopted the regular teaching instruction where reading and writing were separated. All the subjects finished two writing tests respectively. After the experiment, students in experimental group finished the attitude questionnaire. Then all the data were analyzed by SPSS21.0.Major findings are summarized as follows:1)Students took positive attitudes to reading-to-write approach. Results of the questionnaire indicated that after the experiment, most of the students in experimental class adopted positive attitudes to the implement and effectiveness of reading-to-write.2)Reading-to-write can improve students, writing proficiency. Two groups were at the same level in pre-test.In post-test,both of the two groups made progress in writing, but EG was significantly different from CG in content, vocabulary and language use.Due to the limitation of time, samples, along with research design, there are still many shortcomings in this thesis. |
