In recent decades,schema-theory-based reading teaching has been discussed and used constantly in English reading class.And the application of Schema-Theory-Based teaching in English reading class has indeed significantly improved the reading comprehension abilities.However,most of the researches related to schema-theory-based reading teaching are designed to improve reading skills of students.In this research,the activities are designed to study the reading motivation of students in English reading class using schema-theory-based teaching.Additionally,as an English teacher in rural areas,this research limits to senior high school students in rural areas.The purpose of the thesis is to demonstrate the effects of schema-theory-based reading teaching on the reading motivation of senior high school students.The research focuses on discussing the following two questions:(1)What kind of relationship between schema-theory-based reading teaching and reading motivation in reading class?(2)Which type of reading motivation can be influenced to a great degree?80 students from senior one in Pingle High School took part in the study.The research lasts one term.During the whole process of research,the textbook published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press is used in reading class.The teacher applies the method of schema-theory-based reading teaching.That is to say,before reading,activate the schemata stored in brain;During reading,guide students to confirm and modify schemata;After reading,help students consolidate the new schemata.Besides,in the process of experiment,three methods are applied to collect the information about student's reading motivation.They are questionnaire before and after research,interview,and observation journal.Finally,the thesis draw conclusions after analyzing the data with the statistical methods.The findings of the study show that there is a positive relationship between schema-theory-based reading teaching and reading motivation.Among the four aspects of reading motivation,intrinsic reading motivation and instrumental reading motivation shows improvement during the study,while,extrinsic reading motivation and integrative reading motivation shows no obvious changes.That is to say,schema-theory-based reading teaching indeed promote students to develop an interest on English reading.So,schema-theory-based reading teaching has a positive effect on reading motivation of senior students in rural areas.Senior high schools in rural areas are expected to promote schema-theory-based reading teaching,thus contributing to the development of reading teaching in senior high school.
