Taiwan had been ruled by Japan for more than 50 years(1895-1945)since it was ceded to Japan by Qing Dynasty in Treaty of Shimonoseki in 1895.During that period,Japanese policy to Taiwan has changed continuously and systematically.Japanese colonists understood that force could bend innocent people's knees and foster the so called ‘obedient citizens',but it won't last long.Only teaching and cultivating local children with ‘Japanese thinking mode' and even completely enslaving local people into ‘Japanese' could they enhance their ruling and gain local approval, and cover various conflicts and problems caused by their colonial domination. The colonists had taken great pains in how to make history education and how to use history education to make local students abandon their tradition and identify themselves as‘Japanese'.Public School, children compulsory education school set up in Taiwan during Japanese-Occupying Era since 1918,was different with primary school, school for Japanese children, for it was only set for children of Han People in Taiwan, and their teaching objects, courses and teaching methods were all different.Teaching history to younger ages was an attempt made by Japanese colonial government to enslave local people of Taiwan. This article is divided into four parts to discuss the "occupation period" of Taiwan's public school history education and history textbooks. The first part is the background of the establishment of history education in public schools in Taiwan during this period. The economic and cultural conditions before the "occupation period" in Taiwan and Japan were sorted out and the background of the establishment of history education in public schools was explained. The second part is the first period of history education and textbooks for public schools. This part mainly discusses the educational policy, related policies and the history textbooks of the first public school at the beginning of the history education of public schools. The third part is the subject of this article, namely history education and history textbook of public school from 1937 to 1944.This period was the critical period of World War II.History education is naturally also the focus of attention.Japanese colonialists tried hard to implement the so-called "same-same-day Taiwanese" colonial policy in the history education of public schools. The last part is the comparison of the history textbooks used by the Chinese mainland and Taiwan during the same period of primary school.Comparing cross-strait textbooks can better highlight colonialists' historical education intentions.
