A Study On The Development Of Public History Education An American Universities

Public History rose in the 1970 s.It is a new historical trend in the United States which was born in American colleges and universities.The rise of Public History is influenced by both the Academic Depression and the American social environment.Public History Project in American colleges and universities has promoted the development of Public History Movement,which has extensive and profound influence on the history teaching of American colleges and the social culture of the United States.This dissertation divides into three parts,the forward,the main text and the concluding remark,among the main-text contains four chapters.In the forward section,we focus on describing the domestic and foreign research on Public History,trying to define the concept of Public History and elaborating the significance of the study of Public History Education.The first chapter focusing on the causes of the rise of public history education in American colleges and universities from the three aspects of the employment crisis triggered by the "Great Depression",“History from Below” historiography and American pragmatism traditionIn the second chapter,through the collation and analysis of the early emergence and development of public history education,we try to show the development of public history in American colleges and universities.The third chapter focusing on the problems and challenges of American public history education from the aspects of the dilemma of public history curriculum,the dilemma of public historian identity and the professional ethics choice of public historians.The fourth chapter focusing on the influence of public history education on the history education,historiography research and social culture of American colleges and universities.At present,China's analysis of Public History Education is still in its infancy.This paper analyzes the causes and the present situation of American public history project,which is basically the first attempt.Through the study of the development of public history education in American colleges and universities,it can provide useful reference for the development of public history education in our country.
