The Tang novels is a mature form of ancient Chinese novels especially the classical Chinese novels,having a far-reaching influence on the novels afterward.Tao Yuan,the lay Buddhist says in the preface of the Tang Novels that the Tang Novels can hold the fame of the precious of the time like the Tang poetry.In the Tang Novels,the free-talking story of ghost and monster is a special category which combined the free-talking with the ghost and monster,it is imaginary,rich in content,humorous and talented,creating an extravagant fantasy world and revealing the real life for us.The particular meaning inside discloses the unusual aesthetic character of the Tang Novels.As recent research shows,although being paid attention for a long time,the interests are focusing on the poetry and the historical or emotional topic arousing by the free-talking story of the ghost and monster.By the former study,this dissertation tries to make a systematic explanation for the free-talking story of the ghost and monster in the Tang novels,and deeply uncover the background,categories and the aesthetic style of this kind of stories.The whole passage will be divided into four parts.In the introduction,we will trace the existed study of the story recently in the academia and introduce the methodology of this dissertation.The second session shows the background of the story.First,we would like to reveal the sense and character of the free-talking,recalling the evolution of it and discussing the various expression of the free-talking from the Wei-Jin to the Tang Dynasty.In addition,figuring out how the social background impacts the creation of the free-talking story of the ghost and monster.Chapter three classifies the story into the assorted part by its contents.There is seven distinct part such as religious talking,recollection of the history,the Hades talking,the political discussion,the literary criticism,the autobiography and the interaction in the banquets.Lastly,in chapter four,the aesthetic style of the story will be presented.Through the scene,character and the theme of the story,this section is going to unfold a specific negotiation about the style of realistic along with strange setting in the free-talking story of ghost and monster.
