"The Strange Tales of Liaozhai " was completed in 1680, that is, the nineteenth year of emperor Kangxi of Qing dynasty. It is a collection of short stories in antique Chinese with unique thought and artistic style, which takes the form of ghosts to demonstrate contemporary social relations. Thus it keeps a large number of records of folk fath in both Ming and Qing dynasty, and provides valuable materials for the study of folk religion. The book takes writing material from folk life or close to folk life, which makes the beliefs and ideas of folk fath tend to be non-orthodox and non-secular ones. Study the folk fath from such book, we can see the profound social state of that time, as well as political and economic state. At the same time, we can know the contemporary thought, culture and psychology of ordinary people. With classical character of "The Strange Tales of Liaozhai ", this study can present the vitality and adaptation of folk fath.The pater contains four chapters. The first chapter simply analyses the objects of folk faith from three aspects, such as plant worship, animal worship and fairy worship. The second chapter mainly discusses beliefs of ghosts in fox form, with the interpretation of the reason and the regional distributionof such beliefs. The third chapter analyses the largest number of ghosts stories in the book from three aspects, such as ghost in grave, ghost life and the types of ghost. The fourth chapter extracts certain material from the book to make a brief analysis of folk faith.
