It is important and indispensable for English teachers to strengthen students' grammar learning ability.The traditional teaching approaches only lay emphasis on explaining the grammatical rules in isolation and doing a large number of mechanical exercises.As time goes on,students' negative attitude results in unsatisfactory teaching effect.The concept of “context” was first proposed by Malinowski in 1923.He believed that the grammatical forms were inextricably linked with its context.In order to solve the problem of inefficiency in grammar teaching,this study applied context-based grammar teaching approach in senior high school.Students can perceive,explore,apply and internalize grammar knowledge through various contexts created by teachers.This study mainly discusses the following two research questions:1.Can the context-based grammar teaching approach change students' attitude toward English grammar learning?2.Is context-based grammar teaching approach more effective than the traditional grammar teaching approach?In this study,106 students from Grade 2 in Changtu No.4 Senior High School were chosen as research participants.Class 3 was designated as the experimental class and Class5 as comparative class.Students in the experimental class adopted context-based grammar teaching approach while the comparative class students continued to accept traditional grammar teaching approach.In the process of the experiment,the researcher used quantitative and qualitative research instruments to analyze the related data from questionnaire,test and interview by statistical software SPSS19.0.The conclusion is drawn as follows: The context-based grammar teaching approach changes students' grammar learning attitude from negative to positive sense.Students' grammar scores are also improved accordingly.It can be concluded that this approach is effective and feasible.There are still some limitations although the context-based grammar teaching approach provides an effective reference for teachers.It is hoped that more teachers could present valuable proposals on this teaching approach to make it used better in senior high school.
