It is important for senior high students to learn English grammar.English grammar is always the emphasis and difficulty of English teaching in senior high school.But the traditional grammar method is single and the atmosphere in the classroom is dull.The students' dominant position is neglected.The paper applies participatory approach to English grammar teaching in senior high school.It aims to improve the current grammar teaching.Participatory approach includes behavioral participation,cognitive participation and emotional participation.It uses various teaching methods flexibly and guides students to participate actively,which is student-centered.The theoretical foundations are cooperative learning theory and constructionist theory.Cooperative learning refers that the group member learn with the help of others to participate in learning activities actively.Constructivism agrees that students are the subject and constructors of learning.Teachers are the helpers,guides and collaborators of students in constructing knowledge.This paper mainly studies the following three questions:(1)How does participatory teaching affect senior high school students' confidence in learning English grammar?(2)What is the impact of participatory teaching on abilities of senior high school students' English grammar?(3)How does participatory teaching affect the learning strategies of English grammar in senior high school students?84 students of two similar classes are given a teaching experiment for 16 weeks,who come from a senior high school in Beijing.Experimental class has 41 students and the control class has 43 students.The English level of the students in two classes is the same.The experimental class applies the participatory approach and the control class adopts the traditional grammar teaching mode.The Research instruments are questionnaires,pre-test and post-test and interviews.SPSS25.0 software is used to analyze the collected data.The results show that participatory teaching can improve students' confidence,abilities and strategies of learning English grammar.Participatory teaching has a positive impact on English grammar teaching in senior high school.Therefore,participatory approach in English grammar teaching is feasible in senior high school English grammar teaching.
