The development of education in public English has entered a transitional period,and the public English curriculum has changed with the needs of the society and the changes of students' level,and the teaching reform has been continuous.Compression of the public English credits and to foreign language view is put forward,which indicate that English is not a discipline,but rather a curriculum and social demand.Its nature is a common course,rather than professional course.During this period,the public English teachers are in the dilemma of professional development,both the teaching achievement and the teachers' status are seriously declining.They are facing the lay-off and transformation.Based on private colleges,this study conducted a survey on the professional development status of public English teachers through questionnaire and in-depth interview.Compared with the public colleges and universities,the problems of education in private colleges and universities are more serious,which are mainly manifested in students' poor English foundation,lack of learning ability,lack of emotion in foreign language learning,limited electrical teaching equipment,extra-large class teaching and so on.In the absence of this kind of hardware condition,teachers' factors become very important,and the establishment of a high-quality teachers' team is the key to improve the quality of English teaching in private colleges.However,how to develop the self and how to develop in the difficult social reality is still perplexity,the management system of higher education is not perfect,and the private colleges are confined to their own management level and the allocation of teaching resources.There are many problems in the career development of public English teachers in private colleges,and the factors of the teachers themselves make the group become a high population of job burnout.Once the teacher gets into a career development predicament,there will be a great negative impact on their work and life,which is not only conducive to teachers' teaching level and the improvement of scientific research ability,but also to the healthy growth of students.This paper analyzes the causes of the predicament of career development from the theory of demand hierarchy theory,two-factor theory,expectancy theory and incentive theory,and discusses the countermeasures from the government level,the school level,the teacher level and the social level respectively.It aims to explore the continuousgrowth and development of the English teachers in the private colleges,and has a certain value for the improvement of the quality of public English teachers in private colleges and the research on the professional development of public English teachers,and also provides an important basis for the human resource management of private colleges.
