Yu Husan-chi,is a well-known Female Poetess in T'ang Dynasty. Her poems has been introduced and translated into the English world for nearly a hundred years. There are six English versions of Yu Hsuan-chi's poems so far.And Wimsatt's translation Selling Wilted Peonies:Biography and Songs of Yu Hsuan-chi is the first one which attempted to bring this female poetess to American readers.Based on a general investigation of this version, the present thesis takes Wimsatt's translation and interpretation on Yu Hsuan-chi and her poems as the study object. After a comparative analysis of the source text and target text from the perspective of creative treason and cultural interpretation, the translation features of Wimsatt's translation of Yu Hsuan-chi are disclosed. This thesis attempts to explore the creative translation in Wimsatt's English version of Yu Hsuan-chi's poems, which could be reflected into three aspects:the form, image and cultural proper names. As for the cultural interpretation of Yu Hsuan-chi's poems,Wimsatt,as a sinologist, prefers to introduce Yu Hsuan-chi's biography and the social culture in the T'ang Dynasty according to responding poems. This thesis applies the theory in Medio-translatology to analyze Wimsatt's English version of Yu Hsuan-chi's poems and expects to expand the research on Yu Hsuan-chi's English translation. If possible,it expects to help the oversea study of the English translation of the female poets in the Tang Dynasty and the study of translation of Chinese ancient poetry. This thesis based on Wimsatt's translation of Yu Hsuan-chi,starts from the urgent need of promoting Chinese culture to " go abroad ",and enriches the strategic practice of Chinese literature going abroad. It may helpful to provide references and lessons for literary and cultural communication, and hopes to make a positive effect for Chinese literature to go abroad.
