Text interpretation refers to a kind of approach through which readers are expected to walk into the text and the author with his experience,so that the readers are expected to form his own understanding of the text.English reading teaching is the subject of English teaching as a whole.The interpretation of text is essential to help learners effectively carry out reading teaching.Therefore,how to help learners improve their reading effectively has become an important issue that lots of English teachers devote themselves to exploring.The study is based on the theories of Discourse analysis,Schema theory,and Hierarchy of Reading Comprehension,also on the basis of consulting a large amount of relevant references both at home and abroad,the present study attempts to apply the text interpretation approach to English classroom reading in Class 1,Senior Two in Tianshui No.1 Senior School,Gansu Province.In order to test whether the text interpretation approach is suitable and effective in helping students' reading in senior English classroom,this study is mainly focused on the following three research questions: First,whether the application of the text interpretation approach can effectively improve senior high school students' English reading ability? Second,what aspects does text interpretation influence on senior students' English reading ability? Third,what effective text interpretation teaching strategies should be used in English reading teaching in senior high school?This study employs questionnaires,interview and case analysis research methods.First,there're 32 English teachers and 60 students in Class1,Senior Two in Tianshui No.1 Senior School were investigated by means of questionnaires to have a good knowledge of the present situation of students' reading as well as English teaching in senior high school.Taking into account this condition,60 students in Class1,Senior Two are chosen as the research subjects.The method of text interpretation is applied into classroom reading,with four specific cases followed to demonstrate how the process is conducted step by step.Then the questionnaire and interview are conducted among the research submits to test on the effectiveness of the text interpretation method in learner's reading teaching.Through data analysis,the major findings of this study are as follows: Firstly,the application of text interpretation approach can effectively and significantly improve senior high school students' English readingability.Secondly,the application of text interpretation approach can make learners perceive the text topics,activate their cognitive schema,and extract text information based on existing background knowledge and past experience.This can improve learners' ability of predicting the text information;Learners can analyze the internal logical structure and hierarchical relation of discourse according to different textural features.This can help learners accurately understand the content of the text and establish the connection between text information through organizing the discourse logical structure;Learners can appreciate the language of the text,experience the changes of author's emotion in a restricted context.This can enhance learners' ability of comprehending the author's writing intention,making reasonable judgments on text viewpoints;Learners can integrate the text information based on their understanding of the text,which gradually develop learners' ability of excavating the potential meaning of the text.Finally,English teachers in senior high school can apply the appropriate text interpretation strategies in reading teaching,such as interpreting content,interpreting logic structure,interpreting authors' affective attitude,interpreting humanistic connotation of the text interpretation strategies to improve students' reading ability.
