As a crucial part of language teaching, language testing can not only be applied to teaching, but also plays an important role in language research. The new HSK is a standardized international Chinese language test developed by Hanban, which assesses the abilities of non-native Chinese speakers in using Chinese in their daily, academic and professional lives.‘Chinese proficiency test' of Japan is an authoritative Chinese language proficiency test launched by the Chinese language society of Japan, which aims to measure the learning outcome of Chinese learners in Japan correctly and objectively. Both tests can be used as a reference for enrollment ad recruitment and require candidates to be able to use Chinese to listen, speak, read and write, they all have six grades,so they are comparable to some extent.Based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis, this paper studies the past papers of new HSK and ‘Chinese Proficiency Test' of Japan and the peripheral information related to the tests, such as the score reports and official websites. This thesis is divided into four chapters. The introduction part mainly introduces the research background, purpose and significance of this paper. The first chapter introduces these two tests. The second chapter compares the past papers of new HSK and the ‘Chinese Proficiency Test' of Japan, pointing out that the new HSK focuses more on examining the communicative competence of examinees, while the Chinese examination emphasizes the standardization of language. The third chapter mainly discusses whether the related services provided by the development units of these two tests can improve the examinees' test-taking ability.Chapter four discusses the development of the new HSK and the enlightenment of these two tests on the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. The conclusion summarizes the shortcomings of this paper.I hope this study can contribute to the development of teaching Chinese as a second language and the new HSK.
