Kenzaburo Oe is the second Japanese writer who won the 1994 Nobel Prize in literature after Kawabata Yasunari.He was born during the World War Two and raised after the war.At that time,both militarism and democracy had a significant influence on him.Besides,Kenzaburo Oe not only inherited the traditional Japanese culture but also accepted the Western philosophy.Kenzaburo Oe,fond of talking about himself,is able to show his personal and transpersonal experience in his works.This is one of Oe's creative characteristics.His novels partially originate from his daily memory and his own trauma experience.At the same time,family's collective memory and national collective memory are also important sources of inspiration.Sticking to periphery and grounded in reality,Kenzaburo Oe is concerned about politics along with the development of his country.This treatise,mainly focused on the text analysis,tries to find the connection between the memory theory and Oe's writings.This article is divided into three parts: preface,body and conclusion.The first part is a general introduction of Kenzaburo Oe,including his life experience,creating career and relevant research both at home and abroad.It also demonstrates the importance of theme selection and main research methods for the thesis.The body consists of four farts.First of all,there is a summarization of memory theory,which makes an introduction of history,carriers and categories of memory.This provides the theoretical basis for the following discussion.Secondly,focused on the personal level,the author tries to analyze the combination of the self-writing and memory.And then,focused on the family level,it is cleared that Oe has paid great attention to the family memory in his writing.In addition,the way of memory transferring in generations is also discussed.Last but not least,based on essays,the author explores Oe's attitudes to national collective memory and opinions on historical issues.By talking about periphery memories,Oe tries to point out a way for the development of Japan.In the conclusion part,the author summarizes that by writing about all these kinds of memories,Oe aims to discuss the issues about the individual and ethnic existence.Furthermore,it is clarified that memory can help individuals establish self-awareness and enhance national identity.At present,there are a lot of scholars who have studied Oe's writings.However,a few papers are written about his use of memory theory.The author would like to provide a new view for the research on Kenzaburo Oe.
