Before Yuanfeng reform in Song dynasty,Yuanwai lang is as an official position which dose not take their own job.After Yuanfeng reform of Northern Song dynasty,Yuanwai lang start to take their own job as the Ministry officer,they mainly assist langzhong to deal with the affairs come from liubu which belong to shangshu province,in addition to this,yuanwai lang sometimes need to take some temporary jobs,it contain checking local,taking part in official examination and so on.There are some regulars about the appointment and investigation of yuanwai lang,government also treats yuanwai lang more strictly.Except the internal translation,yuanwai lang comes from "cheng"or"doctor" in nine Temple and five prison,it also an ordinary phenomenon that they sometimes are translated to Zhongshu province,Menxia province,nine Temple and five prison.Many supernal officers take this position when they firstly take part in government although yuanwai lang is a low position in government,so,we can describe it as a low position but with a high status.
