The Kite Runner was published in 2003,two years after the 911 Event.It was the first work written by the Afghan American writer Khaled Hosseini.Once it was published,the novel had been highly praised by readers of various countries and caused a great repercussion in the literary circles.It became a major topic after being printed in paperback and was popularized in book clubs.The novel narrated a story of a young boy,Amir from Kabul,whose closest friend was Hassan.Through the memories of Amir,the novel gradually revealed the secret buried in Amir' s heart to readers with the flashback.In the process of recollecting,it recurred the trauma caused by race,war and sex discrimination.This thesis utilized the cultural trauma theory to analyze this work that sought out the manifestation,causes and therapeutic way of cultural trauma in it.Through the exploration of cultural trauma in the text,it revealed that only by facing the problems or correctly handling the relationship between traumatic memory and the present life,can the problems be solved and trauma be cured.In the text,the protagonists' encounters reflected the epitome of Afghan nation' s plight and suffering.Through his work,Hosseini reproduced the traumatic experience of the Afghan nation,which had aroused people' s attention to their spiritual life and living state.This thesis applied cultural trauma theory to analyze the text,which allowed readers to reassess people' s suffering and hardships on this land from another side and provided a new perspective to the study of Hosseini' s works in domestic.
