In daily life,we often have such a feeling, when we completed a difficult task,if we proceed to the next difficult task,we usually tend to performance worse than normal.Based on this,Baumeister puts forward the idea of self-control depletion,he pointing out that because the first task result in ego-depletion,so we fail to play a normal level in subsequent tasks,he also uses the concept of ego-depletion aftereffects to describe the decline in performance in subsequent tasks when somebody have completed a difficult task.In previous studies on ego-depletion and its aftereffects, most of them used the two-task paradigm, based on this, the mental energy model of ego-depletion was proposed,But its shortcoming lies in the fact that mental energy is an overly broad term for ego-depletion,there is no mention of what mental energy include on previous studies,at the same time,In recent years,it has been proved that after the use of multi-task paradigm the ego-depetion aftereffects will be improved, which is obvious contradictory with the energy model of ego-depletion.Therefore,this study intends to further explore the main factors that affect the effectiveness of ego-depletion through the multi-task paradigm.Experiment 1 explores the change of ego-depletion aftereffects by changing the consistency of continuous tasks in multi-task situations. The experiment found that:the performance of the depletion group increased in the second task and decreased in the third task when the tasks were consistent in the multi-task situation, and when the tasks were not consistent in the multi-task situation, the performance of the depletion group decreased in the second task, and increased in the third task.that is,in the multi-task situation, the consistency of continuous tasks affected the ego-depletion aftereffects occurrence time.Experiment 2 explores the effect of motivation on ego-depletion aftereffect through reward or punishment. The experiment found that when stimulation is introduced, the participants' performance is significantly better than that in the unmotivated group, while in the subsequent tasks,on the contrary, the performance of the unmotivated group was significantly better than that of the stimulation group,at the same time, there is no difference in the effect of different stimulation types on self-depletion aftereffects. That is,external stimulation can delay the emergence of self-depletion aftereffects and the effects of different types of stimulation on self-depletion aftereffects are not different.According to the results of experiment 1 and experiment 2,we believe that in multi-task situations, the ego-depletion aftereffects are affected by task consistency,in which cognitive regulation plays a major role, while motivation will accelerate the completion of cognitive regulation.
