In this study,240 students aged from 13 to 14 years old from four schools in Shanghai and its surrounding areas were selected to explore the correlation degree between gender,personality type and musical instrument preference.Previous studies have shown that different instruments have different gender characteristics.On the basis of previous studies,this study explores the relevance between musical instrument preference,gender and personality type.The test scale in this study is the personality scale including the basic information of the subjects and the instrument preference scale.The material used for the test is a music paragraph that is displayed via audio and video.In this study,the author chooses the following six music instruments:Violin,cello,bassoon,horn,trumpet,flute.As the test material,the music played by each instrument is divided into two parts:The first part includes major and minor scale,the second part includes two pieces of music of different speed.The results show that different gender,different personality types have some differences in musical instrument preferences,the data obtained with statistically significant.
