Nathaniel Hawthorne's masterpiece,The Scarlet Letter, plays a pivotal role in the history of literature. The background was based on the 17~thh century North American colony of New England. In the context of the culture and society of another language, how to fully display the culture, language, and social status brings great challenges to the translator in translation practice.Eco-Translatology was first proposed by Hu Gengshen at the University of Hong Kong Baptist University in October 2001.It is a combination of translation and ecology.Eco-Translatology is developed on the basis of the translation theory of adaptive selection;Eco-Translatology is a means of translation studies from the perspective of ecology. This paper researches on comparing the two versions of translation of The Scarlet Letter from the perspective of Eco-Translatology of the three-dimensional transformations, namely communicative dimension, cultural dimension, and linguistic dimension these three aspects to discuss.Through comparing,we tentatively put forward from the perspective of Eco-Translatology what kind of translation strategies can be adopted in order to make such works much closer to the source text. This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter gives an overview of the research background, significance and structure of the thesis. The second chapter reviews the previous scholars'research on the novel,The Scarlet Letter and Eco-Translatology theory. The third chapter introduces the ecological holism, translation as adaptation and selection, and three-dimensional transformations of the theory of Eco-Translatology.In the fourth chapter, the author discusses the English translation strategies of the novel“The Scarlet Letter”by comparing and analyzing the examples. The fifth chapter is the conclusion and points out the shortcomings of this thesis.
