Abstract/Summary:
This thesis examines and explores the manner in which Nathaniel Hawthorne artfully arranges specific flora varieties in The Scarlet Letter with the goal of cultivating and coloring his themes and enriching his characters. With meticulous care and thought, Hawthorne selects his floral and herbal species whose rich language and symbolisms will deliver vibrant clarity to the observant interpreter. When the flora meanings are revealed and their language translated, through the examination of flora history and symbolisms, a new experience will be provided in the reading of this beloved novel.
