As an indispensable part of the basic English education,oral English teaching should be attached importance to by teachers and parents.Nowadays,the study of applying film & TV materials in English teaching is mainly in the stage of higher education,relatively few in stage of basic education,and fewer in middle school oral English teaching.The purpose of this study is to explore whether the application of film & TV materials in oral English teaching under the support of Malinowski' s context theory and Krashen' s input hypothesis compared with other traditional oral English teaching methods in middle school has great advantages in improving pronunciation & intonation and vocabulary & grammatical level of students' oral English competence.Based on qualitative and quantitative research methods,two classes in a middle school in Yueyang city were selected as experimental subjects.They were divided into experimental group and control group,with 40 students in each one.This experiment has been carried out for 4months.The required experimental data were collected through questionnaires,oral pretest and post test.After the collection,the data were analyzed by SPSS(Statistical Product and Service Solutions)18.0.Ultimately,the chief questions of this study were answered.The following results are obtained: most students in experimental group have a great interest in oral English &Western culture learning,and they support the application of English film & TV materials in oral English teaching;The application of English film & TV materials in oral English teaching can effectively improve the pronunciation and intonation level of students' spoken English;The application of English film & TV materials in oral English teaching can effectively increase the vocabulary and grammatical level of students' oral English.The results show that it is feasible to apply English film & TV materials in middle school oral English teaching.And the application of appropriate English film & TV materials in oral English teaching can stimulate students' interest in oral English learning and facilitate oral English teaching efficiency,and hence students' oral communicative competence can be improved.
