Pronunciation is the essential medium in oral communication. Therefore, the mastery ofEnglish pronunciation is foremost for EFL learners. However, every language and dialect hasits own pronunciation rule and phonetic system. Because of the differences between Englishand Chinese, EFL learners tend to transfer Chinese pronunciation habit into Englishpronunciation, and lead the errors and difficulties in English phonetic learning.Dong Bei dialects are the sub-branches of Mandarin. Dong Bei dialects have somesimilarities with the sound system of Mandarin; however, there are differences in severalinitials and finals between Dong Bei dialects and Mandarin. Furthermore, there are numerousdifferences in the pronunciation and intonation between Dong Bei dialects and English.Therefore, the EFL learners of Dong Bei are influenced by their dialects.Through Contrastive Analysis, the paper discusses in theory the similarities anddifferences between Dong Bei dialects and English. Furthermore, the paper conducts a studywhich takes157students in Hei Longjiang Preschool Education College as subject, and takesquestionnaire and two phonetic tests as study method, Via Voice and SPSS as studyinstrument. The study procedures are: firstly, select157subjects by questionnaire; secondly,make two tests in the beginning and at the end of the term, meanwhile, record and check thesounds of the two tests by Via Voice; thirdly, analyze the data by SPSS. The findings of thestudy are that Dong Bei dialects steadily influence the English pronunciation and intonation.Firstly, in aspect of consonants, there are some consonants that do not exist in Mandarin orDong Bei dialects such as [θ][(?)][v] posing difficult for the EFL learners in Dong Bei.Secondly, in aspect of vowels, there are language transfer of Dong Bei dialects to English [(?)][e][ε(?)]. Meanwhile, the author finds out some feasible countermeasures to solve thephonetic problem, and finally improve the EFL learners’ pronunciation and intonation andpromote the teaching quality.
