The Role Of Movies And Television Shows In The Learning Of Chinese As A Foreign Language At The Intermediate And Advanced Level

Teaching through movies and television shows is a new method of teaching based on the fundamental role of language pedagogy.The subject of this thesis revolves around the application of this method of teaching among the intermediate and advanced level Chinese language students.In order to analyse and summarize the current scenario in foreign language classes,this thesis starts with a brief introduction on the reasons and significance of the topic,followed by a detailed explanation of theories related to teaching through movies and television shows.The second chapter of this paper introduces the unique advantages of Chinese film and television show teaching.It is believed that excellent film and television shows not only have artistic appreciation,but can also be applied in language teaching.The vivid story plots,realistic situations that provide contextual communication,dialogues in the standard form of the language and the Chinese culture embodied in the film and television shows are incomparable to the normal language textbooks and other language teaching methodologies.Given the unique superiority of this methodology in language teaching,the third chapter of this paper introduces a popular television show "in the name of the people".It analyses the language,subject matter and cultural aspects of the show and presents the rationality behind choosing this show for teaching purposes.Then using parts of the first episode of this show as an example,this chapter designs a classroom teaching model directed to the intermediate and advanced level Chinese language students.Finally,the paper discusses the problems that may arise during the implementation of the teaching methods discussed above,and gives appropriate suggestions regarding the problems that should be paid attention to during classroom teaching,the principles needed to be adhered to when selecting a show or a movie and problems that teachers need to pay attention to.
