Teachers' feedback,as the main component of classroom discourse,refers to speech evaluation information that teachers send to students to complete their learning tasks according to their answers.It provides students with learning scaffolding,which is an important strategy for teachers to assist students' learning.Based on Vygotsky's theory of zone of proximal development,the author of this research paper has carried out a study and descriptive analysis of three primary and secondary English teachers in Huangshi key middle schools.The author conducted some classroom observation and recording for three teachers.After the observation,questionnaires were sent to three classes.Then three teachers and fifteen students were interviewed one by one.Finally,the speech transcription material,the questionnaire data and the interview materials are arranged and analyzed,and the scaffolding function of the teacher's feedback is discussed.The results of the study show that:1.Teachers' feedback has the function of language scaffolding.Teachers are good at helping students build language scaffolds through feedback,providing students with rich and understandable language input,helping students modify themselves,improve their target language,create opportunities and promote language output.2.Teachers' feedback has the function of cognitive scaffolding.Teachers are good at helping students build cognitive scaffolds through feedback,actively inspiring,providing learning strategies for students,guiding and reducing task difficulty step by step,giving examples in time and demonstrating to students.3.Teachers' feedback has the function of emotional scaffolding.Teachers are good at helping students build emotional scaffolding through feedback,stimulate students' interest in learning,cultivate students' self-confidence and sense of achievement,and help students reduce classroom anxiety.To sum up,the study of teachers' feedback can help teachers to understand the scaffolding function of feedback,help teachers use feedback reasonably,and promote students' language development,cognitive development and emotional development,so as to improve the efficiency of English classroom teaching.
