Scaffolding Instruction is a a teaching approach based on constructivism theory and Vygosky's ZPD theory.It emphasizes the construction of knowledge assissted by teachers and peer learners.As Scaffolding Instruction advocates autonomous learning and cooperative learning,which confirms to the purpose of new curriculum reform of senior high school.It is widely accepted and applied in English teaching in China.For more than 10 years,researches have been carried out on the effect of Scaffolding Instruction.Most of them explore the effect on students.Not enough attention is paid to students' and teachers' view on the application of Scaffolding Instruction.Both teachers and students are crucial parts in language teaching reform and their ideas do matter in the application of Scaffolding Instruction.Therefore,the study attempts to do an investigation on the application of Scaffolding Instruction in senior high school English teaching.The thesis tries to answer the following questions:1.What are the students' opinions of Scaffolding Instruction?2.How do teachers perceive the Scaffolding Instruction?3.What is the relationship between demographic variables and teacher's perception of Scaffolding Instruction?The investigation was carried out in Haizhou Senior High School.It lasted for nearly two months.The sources of the data were from two questionnaires as well as interview for teachers.Besides,years of working,professional title and academic degree and illustrated in the questionnaire of teachers.The 100 students and 20 English teachers take part in the investigation.All the collected data were analyzed by SPSS software.The results of questionnaires and interview indicate that both students and teachers speak highly of the Scaffolding Instruction.And the demographic variables do impact on the results of teachers' questionnaire.Teachers with medium teaching experience and those with middle title apply the Scaffolding Instruction best.Teachers with higher education background prove to be skilled in applying new approach.While there are some confusion stated by teachers in the teaching procedure.These findings are expected to broaden the study of Scaffolding Instruction in senior high school English teaching and offer more implications.
