Chinese refusal speech act is a kind of speech act threatening the positive face.In daily life,it is difficult for us to express one's rejection properly as well as not hurting other's face.Because of the differences in language and culture,it is difficult for learners of Chinese as a second language to deal with the problem of refusal properly in daily communication, resulting in communication barriers and cultural conflicts, which affect the smooth development of daily communication. In order to solve this problem, this paper selects Chinese refusal speech act as the breakthrough point of the study, taking Vietnamese intermediate students as the research object, using questionnaire and interview methods to study the pragmatic strategies and pragmatic bias of their refusal speech behavior.Through the investigation,it is found that the influence of social power on the use of Chinese refusal strategies in Vietnamese intermediate students is greater, and the social status is proportional to the direct rejection strategy adopted, but the social distance factors have little influence.Whether for strangers or acquaintances,Vietnamese students use the most reason seeking strategy, and the least is joking strategy. On the other hand,Vietnamese students' pragmatic bias in Chinese refusal speech is more than social pragmatic bias.According to the problems in the refusal of speech act of the Vietnamese intermediate students, especially the cause of the problem, some pertinent suggestions are put forward. The pragmatic knowledge should be properly added to theteaching materials. The students should make better use of the target language environment for Chinese learning.Teachers should try a variety of different teaching methods in order to improve the language communication ability of foreign students.
