The coherence between junior and senior high school English textbooks is an important aspect of English transition.The contents of the teaching materials in the two stages should be arranged in a certain order and in a consistent and coherent manner around a teaching purpose.The previous stage lays the foundation for the natural extension learning in the latter stage,and the knowledge arrangements in each unit of the teaching materials should also be consistent and related to each other.The grammatical knowledge is a significant part of the English textbooks for middle school students.Therefore,this paper focuses on grammatical tenses knowledge,trying to analyze the coherence of English textbooks from junior high to senior high.This dissertation uses Taylor's curriculum evaluation model in combination with the compulsory and junior high English curriculum standards to give a definition of Coherence and then study the characteristics and problems of grammatical tenses knowledge coherence in the two sets of textbooks for middle school students of the People's Education Press from following aspects: tense distribution,content presentation,and practice setting features.In order to make students use the teaching materials better,meet student needs,and guide students in the systematic mastery of English grammar knowledge.At the same time,it also has certain reference significance for teachers' English grammar teaching.The study found that the grammatical items with the largest proportion of grammatical knowledge in the two sets English textbooks were verb tenses.The junior high school pave the way for the learning of senior high school verb tenses.The senior high school textbooks are mostly new grammar items.Most of them are high-level grammars,and the spans of two sets textbook are too large.The tense content of senior high school textbooks is related to the junior middle school and shows the sequential nature of the tense senior high school textbooks.However,there are too few other tenses in the senior high school textbooks.The presentation of tense content shows that the appearance of various tenses in junior middle schools is relatively concentrated and the degree of difficulty is gradually increasing.Although the tense content in senior highschool textbooks is also form simple to complicate,the tense content is less and the coherence of tense knowledge is limited.In terms of tense practice types,junior high school is mostly a basic type of practice and is very interesting.However,the practice setting in senior high schools is more creativity,and the difficulty requirement is even greater.There are problems with large differences in the types of tense exercise settings and the big span.
