Reproduction Of Coherence In The Translation Of International Relations Text

This translation text is based on History of Relations between China and Latin American and Caribbean Countries(Chapter 7,Part 4-5),which is edited by He Shuangrong,one of the outstanding researchers at CAS Latin American Institute.The part mainly studies the increasingly close intercommunication and cooperation between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries in people-to-people and cultural exchanges,science and technology as well as military field,making a positive referential value for the further development of China-LAC relations.As an international relations text,this book is of great readability and academic value,featured by careful and formal words,as well as fluent and scrupulous writing style.As is well known,Chinese and English have many differences in language features and expressing ways,and how to find and reproduce the coherence at different levels in translation is a problem to be faced and dealt with.Therefore,this report divides the coherence into three levels,including grammatical coherence,semantic coherence and pragmatic coherence,and selects 20 typical cases to analyze:firstly realizing the grammatical coherence through the conversion of reference and substitution cohesion,secondly reproducing the semantic coherence by virtue of building the distinctive relation of lexical meanings and adjusting semantic focus,and lastly accomplishing the pragmatic coherence through manifestation of translation and interpretative translation strategy in combination of context.Through these strategies and methods mentioned above,the author reproduces a coherent and smooth discourse in accordance with reading habits of the target readers.Via the translation practice,the author firstly has a deeper understanding of China-LAC relations' development course,and then realizes that the reproduction of fluent translation must be based on the recognition of coherent features of the original text,the combination of the different characteristics about Chinese and English,as well as the proper transformation of the target text.During this process,the author has a more accurate grasp of differences between the two languages,further promoting her own capacity for bilingual transformation.This report is aimed at offeringreference to C-E translation practice of the same kind.
