From Consciousness-only Buddhism To Consciousness-only Psychology

Consciousness-only Buddhism is regarded as a treasure house of oriental psychology.However,mainstream psychologists have not realized the value of Chinese indigenous Consciousness-Only School(which was founded by Hsuan-tsang[玄奘]and Kuei-chi[窥基]).In fact,Consciousness-only Buddhism is a doctrine with meticulous theoretical system,refined conceptual categories,and comprehensive ideological extensions,which shows many theoretical advantages compared to the fragmentary and loose western psychological system.In recent years,the development of artificial intelligence has put forward higher demands on the systematism of psychological theory.Although western psychology and neuroscience have played an important role in the development of artificial intelligence,they still have many problems on the level of epistemology.On the contrary,the ideological system of Consciousness-only School has carried out a careful analysis of the mind system,which can deepen people’s understanding of artificial intelligence architecture.In this paper,several works were carried out to advance the research of the predecessors:(1)The psychological theory system of Consciousness-Only School was systematically organized with modern context in three different levels,which were a body-mind-environment system in the macro perspective,a structure of subject of experience in the normal perspective,and a detailed mind system in the micro perspective.(2)Several issues that should be considered in the construction of the artificial mind system(or artificial intelligence)are explored based on the thoughts of Consciousness-Only School.(3)The definition and academic value of the so-called Consciousness-Only Psychology were explored,as the organization of the theoretical architecture of mind system of Consciousness-Only School were done.The conclusions are as follows:(1)Consciousness-only Buddhism contains psychological thoughts which are rich in content,rigorous in concepts,and complete in structure,and has conducted a comprehensive analysis of mind system from various perspectives.(2)The theoretical viewpoint of Consciousness-Only Psychology can be compatible with modern psychology and cognitive neuroscience.(3)Consciousness-Only Psychology is a Chinese indigenous psychology,which takes the mind system as the research object,with the theoretical system of three courses,eight types of consciousness and hundred kinds of phenomenon as the framework,the phenomenology as paradigm and the of meditation as fundamental method.(4)Consciousness-only Psychology is of great significance and value to the unification of two culture in psychology and the unity of natural mind and artificial mind.
