The adaptation of the Chinese classic folk songs into piano music is an important part of Chinese piano works. In a Faraway Fairyland composed by Wang Luobin is a well-known folk song with great popularity in China. This paper analyzes and studies the three piano solos adapted from In a Faraway Fairyland, starting with the different creative ideas of the three composers, and comprehending the different creative backgrounds of the three piano adaptations, further,a detailed analysis of the characteristics of the three piano music creations is performed. The three composers have adopted flexible processing approaches on the beat, speed, and length of the phrase. The original melody is changed several times and have made it become three piano solo songs with different effects. The diversified textures, the imitation of traditional Chinese musical instruments, and the use of various ornaments involved in the three works are discussed together with the performance.Based on these aspects,it is confirmed that the three pianos have different sound effects.Through the above research,we can recognize the feasibility and diversity of the adaption of Chinese folk songs to the piano version. The expressiveness of the three works is close to the Chinese style. An in-depth understanding and interpretation of the three works can provide us with better understanding about the combination methods of Western musical instruments and folk music, which is also an important approach for us to inherit and develop national music.
